Vishnu Singh
Founder, Hatha Yoga, Iyengar Yoga Teacher
The visionary behind Shree Tatsat Yogshala, renowned as a distinguished Hatha and Iyengar Yoga Teacher. Vishnu Ji is the founder of Shree Tatsat Yogshala. He stepped into the field of fitness at the age of 15 when he started running in marathons for schools and colleges. This passion for fitness set the stage for his remarkable career. After completing his college education, he initially ventured into the corporate world in Gurgaon. However, his dedication to running faced challenges due to his corporate commitments. This prompted a significant shift in his career, leading him to specialize in strength and endurance training, ultimately paving the way for his role as an esteemed yoga teacher.
How did his journey start?
Vishnu Ji’s journey along the yoga path had a rather conventional beginning when a friend invited him to substitute as a teacher for a beginner’s class. Given his background in running training, he could incorporate dynamic movements to teach in the class. This initial experience fueled his desire to delve deeper into learning more about alignment and anatomy within yoga asanas.
Swami Rudra Gauda Ji in Rishikesh became his first guru, sparking his exploration of various teaching methods. As his journey progressed, he sought guidance from other revered teachers like Batra Ji, Usha Mata, and Angelo, each of whom played a significant role in helping him grasp the profound concepts of Yoga asanas.
His journey started with Iyengar yoga, However, his background as a dedicated runner posed limitations in his ability to move freely into various yoga asanas. It became a challenge for him to effectively demonstrate these postures to his students.Following months of dedicated training and keen observations, he started to create his sequences for his classes, eventually venturing into teaching at teacher training programs. His pride lies in the profound exploration he undertook through various teachers in Rishikesh. This perspective has leveraged him to become a versatile teacher well-versed in yoga asanas through multiple methods. His journey involved experimentation with various combinations, transitioning from Iyengar yoga to Hatha with alignment, among other innovative approaches.
Let's explore his areas of expertise and teaching methods:
Vishnu Ji is the ideal example of a person overcoming his shortcomings. He openly shares, “My shoulders and core were once incredibly stiff due to my background in running. The practice of yoga demands a unique fusion of mobility and strength, which I had to cultivate. Backbends used to be quite challenging for me, but I decided to transform them into my area of strength.” In the vibrant yoga community of Rishikesh, Vishnu Ji is renowned for his distinctive approach to teaching backbends. His personal journey from stiffness to mastery has not only inspired others but also made him a sought-after teacher for those aspiring to master their practice of backward bends.
His teaching methods are constructive and informative. Students find resonance in his teaching style because he not only motivates them to progress but also excels in assisting them in enhancing not only their strength and flexibility, but also their mobility. His enduring passion for running has imparted to him exceptional stamina and endurance in his practice, enabling him to sustain a rigorous 4-hour practice without fatigue. This invaluable experience has been skillfully integrated into his teaching methods.
As Vishnu Ji guides his students on their yoga journey, he goes beyond simply improving their flexibility. He empowers them to develop endurance and strength through a variety of yoga asanas. He says, “My body has always been my playfield. I reshape and test it as many times as necessary. This has improved my practice. My aim is to help my students achieve their goals and unlock their full body potential.”
